Run Silent, Run Deep is a classic submarine movie, starring Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster. Based on a book of the same name, the story follows a US Navy submarine commander hellbent on taking revenge against a Japanese Destroyer that sunk his ship. But has the maniacal commander gone too far, putting his new crew in danger?

Directed by Robert Wise, the film has been praised for it's technical accuracy. Many cast members were actual World War II veterans, creating a realistic depiction of the maneuvers aboard the submarine.

Surprisingly, Run Silent, Run Deep was overlooked by the Oscars™, and didn't receive any nominations, though it is considered one of the great WWII.

The film is currently only available on DVD

In 1942, the Nazi's were dominating the seas due in large part to their unbreakable encryption via the Enigma encoding device. Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton, and Jon Bonjovi star as American submariners who attempt to steal the Enigma in this Oscar winning thriller.

The film seems to have stirred controversy, splitting audiences. People either love or hate this movie. If you are looking for a popcorn movie thrill ride with submarines, this may float your boat...

If you are looking for a factual account of history, well, this movie may sink like a stone. The film received intense fire over the small detail that the English actually recovered the Enigma, from U-559.

It's rumored that a former German U-Boat commander upon viewing the film commented "they got one thing right... there were U-Boats in the water."

Check out Viggo Mortensen before he was Aragorn in Lord of the Rings, in this submarine movie thriller. Starring Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman, with a script reportedly polished by Quentin Tarrentino, Crimson Tide is a high adrenaline look at mutiny aboard a nuclear submarine.

It's got an awesome Hanz Zimmer score, and Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington go toe to toe when an emergency action message is garbled, putting the nuclear launch order into question during a combat situation.

Is the mutiny justified? Watch and find out...

The Hunt For Red October is one of the classic submarine movies, and one of our favorites. Starring Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Sam Neill and Scott Glenn, The Hunt For Red October is a thrilling game of cat-and-mouse as CIA analyst Jack Ryan tries to convince the top brass that a locked and loaded Russian Nuclear submarine heading straight for the US coast is not attempting a first strike.

Directed by John McTiernan, who also directed the original Die Hard, this taught techno-thriller is based on the best selling book by Tom Clancy, and won an Academy Award for best sound effects editing. With the latest technology, the Red October is virtually silent, and with a full payload of intercontinental ballistic missiles, the threat of nuclear armageddon hangs in the balance.
